Planmeca Oy was founded in 1971 by Heikki Kyöstilä in a small workshop in Helsinki. More than fifty years later it is still headquartered in the same city, still privately owned by the founding family, and still engineering the overwhelming majority of its imaging hardware in-house — a rarity in an industry that has consolidated around three or four publicly-traded giants.
That independence matters in the second-hand market. Planmeca has never abandoned an installed base. Service documentation for the original ProOne generation (2010–2012) is still published and spare parts are still produced. A ten-year-old ProOne that has been well-maintained is not an orphan. It is a serviceable, calibrateable, software-current imaging instrument.
If an imaging unit survives fifteen Finnish winters of daily clinical use, it will survive anywhere.
Planmeca built the ProOne for clinics that do not want an imaging lab — they want a panoramic X-ray that a receptionist can operate reliably. Every design choice follows from that constraint.
A single button on the patient handle starts the rotation. No program trees, no sub-menus. The staff member seats the patient, aligns the light guides, presses once, and walks out.
A selective-compliance articulated robot-arm drives the imaging head along a non-circular path that matches the anatomical jaw curve. Sharper image layer than conventional two-axis panoramics.
Multiple focal layers captured in one rotation; the software selects the sharpest composite automatically. Fewer retakes, lower cumulative patient dose.
67 kilograms, wall-mountable, fits into a 1.2 × 1.2 m room with a single phase supply. Drawn for the realities of converted clinic space, not green-field installations.
These are not vendor stock photos. Every image below is of a refurbished ProOne currently in our inspection bay. Ask for additional angles or a live video walkthrough before you buy.
This is a direct DICOM export from the Planmeca Romexis software after a single-rotation standard adult panoramic on the ProOne. No post-processing beyond the default SmartPan layer selection and standard clinical brightness curve.
Full dentition is visible — central incisors to erupted third molars — with temporomandibular joints and maxillary sinuses rendered sharply enough for routine screening. The ProOne is not a CBCT; it will not give you volumetric data for implant planning. For that workflow, look at Planmeca ProMax or a competing 3D unit.
Values below are taken directly from the Planmeca ProOne technical datasheet (IEC 60601 filings). The refurbishment process does not alter any of these parameters.

Minimum 1.2 × 1.2 m clear floor with lead-shielded walls per local radiation-protection regulations.
100/1000 Mbit Ethernet for Romexis server connection. No wireless dependency.
Original unit bears CE marking and CCC (China Compulsory Certificate) where applicable. Compliance documents shipped with the machine.
And — just as important — who it is not for. We sell machines for a living; we do not sell the wrong machine.
Routine caries and periodontal screening, orthodontic referral imaging, wisdom-tooth assessment, third-molar pre-extraction views. The ProOne's standard adult and child panoramic programs cover 90%+ of general-practice imaging needs.
TMJ program and bitewing-style segmented programs are adequate for initial treatment planning. For full cephalometric workups, refer out or upgrade to ProMax.
A refurbished ProOne runs at a fraction of a new mid-range panoramic and a small fraction of any CBCT unit. Total cost of ownership over ten years is low — single tube head, simple mechanics, wide parts availability.
If your workflow requires 3D volumetric planning — bone density, nerve canal mapping, guided surgery templates — skip the ProOne and look at Planmeca ProMax 3D, Carestream CS 9300 or Vatech PaX-i3D. Panoramic X-ray cannot substitute for CBCT here.
No dedicated cephalometric sensor arm — the ProOne captures panoramic only. Clinics that need lateral ceph tracing need a ProMax 2D or a competitor unit with a ceph module.
